On My Radar

This week flew by. I’ve had so much to do at work and at home but I’ve thankfully been getting a lot crossed off my to-do list. I’ve also been competing with my friends in two Fitbit “Workweek Hustle” challenges- a competition to see who can get the most steps during a typical work week. It has seriously motivated me to get up and walk around at work and go for extra long runs after work. Unfortunately I’m still not doing too hot. (My friends are more active than me apparently.) But I’m determined to not lose by too much. Anyway here’s what’s been on my radar this week…

These Shoes

I ordered these from J.Crew Factory online last week and they finally arrived. I’m obsessed. They’re the perfect glitzy addition to an otherwise boring summer outfit and they’re on serious sale. Originally $70 and only $34 right now. Go, Go. Go.

Pop of Pink

T-shirt dresses are a go-to for me. What’s not to love? They’re so easy to style and work for almost any occasion. This dress is especially great because it’s slightly longer in the back than the front, making it totally appropriate for casual days at the office. I’ll pair this with flats and a cardigan for summertime work days, and bright accessories for weekend outings.

I wore this outfit for Sunday brunch with my girlfriends. (If you haven’t been to Lucky 32 for brunch on the patio, you’re missing out on a sweet summertime treat – I recommend anything with a biscuit on the side.) I added pops of pink to this Mossimo number, with J.Crew jewelry and a fun Kate Spade clutch, and brought along a J.Crew jean jacket just in case. This clutch is one of my favorites because it’s casual and convenient. I throw it in my work tote with my wallet and sunglasses inside, and then when lunch plans or after-work drinks come up I can just bring that as oppose to my entire work bag. Adulting life hack.

Bell Sleeves & Bright Accessories

One of my favorite trends this season is bell sleeves. They’re girly and fun, but sometimes can be a little too much when styled incorrectly. But when they’re right, they’re oh so cute. Take this J.Crew Ruffled Bell-Sleeve Shift Dress for example.

I’ve been lusting over this dress since I first laid eyes on it, and I finally bit the bullet and purchased it during a recent 30% off sale. I’m obsessed. (It does run big, so I sized down and got an XS.) I’ll wear this shift to work with nude flats, weekend lunches with casual sandals and dressed up to summer soirees with fun jewelry and heels. (Lets be honest, I’m never taking it off.)

I paired the striped dress with brightly colored accessories and shiny statement jewels. Playing with patterns I wore these J.Crew floral yellow pumps (from a few seasons back), and carried a light blue Gigi NY tassel clutch (my all time favorite bag). J.Crew statement studs and a Loren Hope cuff added a glimpse of glam to this fun spring outfit.

Spring Shoes Smitten

I’m not sure if it’s the season, the latest trends or maybe I’ve just spent a bit too much time browsing the shoe sections of my favorite shopping sites lately, but I’m totally smitten by spring shoes. I’ve rounded up just a few of my favorite spring shoes, and I’ll definitely be purchasing at least one pair of these (God help my wallet). Clearly there are a few patterns here…espadrilles, wedges, chunky straps & heels, platforms and laces. Spring’s trends have gotten the best of me.

On My Radar

Taylor, Mumford and Rosa. A few things on my radar this week… Check it out below.

73 Questions

If you haven’t heard of or seen these videos and you have any interest in celebrities or pop culture at all, they’re worth a watch. 73 Questions is a video series by Vogue, filmed in a single shot, where (you guessed it) an unknown interviewer asks celebrities 73 questions while they inexplicably tour a house, set or otherwise unexplained environment. The questions are random but the celebrities responses and the interviews themselves feel candid and real. The latest video is with Taylor Swift, so obviously I tuned in.

Criss Cross

I was admittedly not on board with this trend when I first started catching glimpses of the pirate-esque blouses on my favorite bloggers and celebrities, but something about them has grown on me and I’ve since gotten on board. The trend extends past just lace up blouses though, I’ve got my eye on these Sam Edelman lace up pumps too, and I’ve seen countless other lace up pieces on my Instagram feed.

Anyway I recently ordered this Madewell top online and I’m a big fan. It’s cotton, so it’s a bit more casual than I was expecting but even so very versatile. I wore it with a lace bralette and jeans to a baseball game one weeknight and with a cami underneath and chunky heels to work the next week. Here I styled it for a weekend outing with white Kendra Scott earrings, a Tory Burch Tote and brown Madewell sandals. Now I’m dying to try more criss cross pieces, shoes, shirts… the possibilities are endless.

First Apartment Furnishings

Decorating your first apartment can seem daunting. Big budget items such as a mattress, bed frame, couch and dining table can add up quick. And that’s without adding decor that’ll  bring your first very own space to life.

I thought I knew exactly what I wanted/needed when it came to apartment shopping in the few short weeks between graduation and my start date, denying my Mom’s suggestions to get a larger couch and a larger dresser (not sure what my infatuation with small furniture was).

Clearly I didn’t get it completely right the first time around, but I’d like to think I’ve figured out a thing or two in my first year of living on my own. So here are my (and my Mom’s – because lets face it, Moms are always right) suggestions for furnishing your first apartment.

On My Radar

Last week was a whirlwind. Have you ever had one of those weeks that fly by where you can’t keep up and simultaneously feel like they’re taking forever to get to the weekend? That was my week. Work was crazy, I was prepping to have my childhood best friend visit for the weekend and I had so much on my mind I couldn’t think straight. Sometimes you just need an escape from reality. Jumping into someone else’s life, even momentarily, is a good break from the craziness of your own life sometimes. Thank god for addicting TV shows, pop culture and good books, am I right? Lately, these ones have been on my radar.

The People vs. OJ

My latest TV series binge. In the past few weeks I caught up on all of the episodes online, just in time for last week’s finale and boy – I get the hype. If you haven’t tuned in yet, I highly recommend a little binge watching yourself. Having been only two during the trial, I knew next to nothing about the case. Admittedly my original interest in the show may have had a little to do with the Kardashians inclusion, BUT after watching a few episodes it’s clear Robert Kardashian’s role is relatively minor in comparison to the rest of Simpson’s all star team of attorneys. It’s actually incredibly enlightening to see not only the details of this case but the injustice to the victims families, OJ’s deceptive personality and the blatant sexism faced by Marcia Clark, the prosecutor on the case-which I found to be one of the most enthralling aspects of the trial… [spoiler alert]

Travel Treats: Asheville, NC

Recently a few friends and I headed West to Asheville, NC for a Saturday adventure. We didn’t have a plan for the day, but sometimes that’s the best way to explore- stumbling upon treasures as you go. We put ‘Downtown Asheville, NC’ in our iPhones, parked in the first garage we found and headed off on foot. We spent the day wandering the streets, finding bright boutiques, quaint coffee shops and eccentric restaurants. Unfortunately we didn’t get to experience The Biltmore Estate (next time), one of Asheville’s most popular attractions, but we did find a few sweet spots instead. Here are a few of my favorites…

A Weekend In

I’ll admit it, I’m a bit of a home-body. Maybe it’s the introvert in me, but sometimes a weekend on the town just seems exhausting. Don’t get me wrong, I’m up for a drink at the local trendy bar, and I’ve had my fair share of late nights out, but sometimes I’d rather snuggle up with a good candle (Voluspa Crane Flower), a movie I’ve seen a time or two before (probably a rom-com) and some snacks (kettle corn popcorn is my weakness). Since having recently adopted a kitten, I’m even more inclined to stay home, needless to stay I’ve been even more of a home-body lately.

These are a few ingredients for a weekend in when you need some time to yourself to recharge.
